Ken on Freedom Radio 99.5 FM Kano, Nigeria
Ken has spent another month digging up records in various cities in Northern Nigeria. During his last visit a few months back, Ken got friendly with the fine people at Kano's Freedom FM station and this time they even invited him to go on the air and play a few tunes.

Did Ken dig up any interesting Hausa records? I was in Kano in '95 and dropped by a music store (forget the name) & got a ton of cassettes of traditional music. Not terribly interesting musically, but maybe I'd appreciate them more if I knew the language. The same store had a ton of Sudanese recordings, which I passed on, & I could kick myself for that now!
Hey John. Ken told me about having found a couple of music store that still had some records. That's where he got the Kano Alhadjis and the Jimmy Johnson records that he played on the radio show. The Kano Alhadjis records was actually recorded in Lagos with the Martin Brothes as a backing band. We don't mess with cassettes so there's no saying what they still have on tape in those stores. The best stuff, he found in private collections and from an old DJ.
