I discovered your site through the Leigh's documentary fund page.

Seriously great discovery here from a huge congo rumba fan, without forgetting to listen to some fella along the way...

a say nice one with reefer!

I found this through Leighs documentary fund page as well, and I have to say, its been quite a wonderful discovery thus far! Is there anyway to get purchase and/or download one of these playlists? This one is amazing!

Hi Vanessa,

glad your enjoying yourself with what you found. All mixes are downloadable. On a PC, use "right-click" and then "save target as". On a Mac, hold down the option key while clicking onto the mp3 link/image.

Support the original artists and the record labels making these tunes available again by purchasing any of the releases mentioned on this blog.

Thanx!

Frank

Frank,

You really have out done yoursel with this mix! The two standouts (Uwaifo would be too if I hadn't already heard it - albeit in 'edit' form) for me are Nyame Bekyere and The Walking Shadows. And the Nyame Bekyere has probably the finest sleeve I have seen. I guess it is very rare but this tune needs reissuing somewhere! of course, if you had a spare it would find a very loving home with me...

Hi Sam T,

unfortunately you are a bit late, the Nyame Bekyere was a spare and is already on hold for someone. I'll contact you if the deal falls through. Killer tune, you are right about that.

best

Hey Frank,

Thanks for keeping me in mind. I won't be holding my breath - you'd have to be mad (or maybe broke) to change your mind about that record.

Cheers

Wow, amazing mix. Thank you so much. Just starting to understand and appreciate these sounds.

Are there any releases available by The Walking Shadows? Any compilations?

Thanks again, Till

Frank said...

Hi Till,

glad you're enjoying the mix.

None of the tracks on this mix have ever been re-issued as far as I know but I'm working on the licensing of a few of them...

Cheers!

Frank

Please keep us posted about those releases if they happen!

Any suggestion where i can find more of that heavy sound as put down by the Walking Shadows?

Thanks again for your work!

Frank said...

Hi Till, in case you don't have it already, I would recommend the Psychedelic Aliens re-issue.

Stay tuned, I have a couple of really hard hitting 45s about to come out later this year...

Hey Frank, Wow....the Nyame Bekyere track is solid gold killer....best tune I've heard this year. Big thanks

Thanks for this mix - there are three tracks that have been re-issued that people can get if they want - Uppers on Ghana Soundz 2, the Victor Uwaifo on the sofrito 12"/Strut Comp and Jungle Music on the Comet comp "Bilongo"

Frank said...

You're right. But while I'm a big fan of the Soundway and Sofrito labels, you should know that "jungle music" by the Afro Kelenkye Band was featured on the (tastelesly assembled) Bilongo comp witout proper licensing. I know the producer, label owner and copyright holder of the Kelenkye LP and have asked him about this.

Frank, do you have any copies of The Walking Shadows - Kun Adele or wari wah 45 for sale? I am a huge fan of your work here.

Frank said...

Hi Ducon, sorry, no spare copies of those... there might be a re-issue at some point though.
