new party, new venue, new mix!

Saturday June 20th will see the premiere of the LAGOS DISCO INFERNO!
As the name implies, this party will be pure Nigerian Disco heaven and I found the perfect venue for it: Glasslands in Williamsburg, one of Brooklyn's friendliest party venues. If you don't know it yet, rest assured that you'll love it.

Here is a brandnew mix to give you a little taste of what you can expect at this party which will be the only club night worldwide solely dedicated to the worshipping of Nigerian Disco:

Please click on the image to listen!
Thanx go out to Chris at Fully Fitted for hosting the mp3!

This will also mark the end of any Disco being played at the Voodoo Funk party. I've been getting so many great Nigerian Disco records lately, I've decided that this genre deserves its own night.

I was wondering : have you (you or any of your readers)ever been to Tanzania and is there any place you would recommend to find good music overthere ? And any place to listen to good live bands ?
Thanks

I've never been to any East African countries. You should try Pieter at Sea Never Dry (check my links).

Sorry guys, there won 't be a tracklist this time... some of these tracks will be featured on a soon to be released CD/Vinyl compilation. Maybe after all the licensing is sorted out.

Best

Frank, thanks for that awesome mix. I'm really looking forward for the reissue compilation.

By the way it's great to see you changing from "Saulus to Paulus". I can clearly remember your hate against all things disco and reissue compliations on vinyl.
Who would have thought a few years back that Frank would become a compiler of reissues and a disco DJ?
I'm not complainig...

hey Anonymous, I never had anything against compilations or re-issues, I just always thought it was lame to use them for dj-ing. But my newfound love for Disco came pretty much as a surprise even for myself. Maybe I'm getting soft with age but there's something highly infectious about these African Disco records. At first, I only listened to them so I could describe them to potential buyers but before long, most moved from the sales boxes to the storage boxes and now into the play-out boxes.

Doesn't mean I'm about to abandon the rough and tough Afro Funk sounds though, just last week I signed a licensing contract for the Psychedelic Aliens catalogue...

Hi Frank,

I just discovered your blog, and if you listen carefully, the 'bonk' you hear is my jaw hitting the floor. This is an outrageously excellent collection of music. Thank you very much for taking the time to put it together and share it.

Much respect,

Peter
