Frank, you're my hero- the music is mindblowing...

hope to make it to this...

Fantastic great new mix, thanks a lot Frank. Also for all the effort you've done by taking all this music out of it's closet into the digital daylight.
Only the parties are missing here in Europe, never thought about making some sort of VoodooFunk tour? I'm sure here in Budapest on the A38 concerthall ship you would be a big big smash.

SeeYa, Frans.

PS: have Ferry Djimmy as ringtone on my mobile, and now my daugther likes to play it continuously and dance to it (even on the way to the kindergarden!)

Hey Frans, I'd love to come to Budapest... going to be in Europe in May from what it looks like.

please give me a link instead . I hate streaming .

Frank said...

Don't know what you mean, this is a link and no streaming audio. Depending on how you have set the preferences on you browser, clicking on the image will lead to some sort of audio player opening the mp3. If you hold down the option-key on a mac while clicking, the mp3 should download automatically onto your computer. On a PC, use left-click-option.

thanks & looking forward to the new venue. I hope it's a hit.

Thanx for coming down for this. It really was a great time. Easily amongst the 5 best parties I've had in over 15 years of spinning records.

Thanks again for sharing this amazing music! Saturday night wasn't very satisfying from a dancing perspective because most of the time it was too cramped to genuinely dance (and of course some people just stand around drinking and not dancing, wasting valuable dancefloor space), but I really enjoyed hearing the amazing music and sharing in the positive energy nonetheless!!! (I was one of the 150 or so people who hung out outside in the cold unable to see or hear Budos Band after it was sold out, but I was there mainly to dance to your DJ set so it was worth waiting around.)

Hi, thx for the new excellent mix. I would love hear more from The Uppers("Dan Kasa", means 'descendant of Hausa migrants from Nigeria born in Ghana')or The Uppers Chapter 2 ("Samarin Bolga" from Comp. Ghana Soundz meaning ' Young man of Bolgatanga')...Or any related Hausa Funk, if its available.

Frank said...

I'll try and see if I can find more Hausa stuff. Did you check out Joe Mensah's "funky talk in Hausa" on the "Everybody Get Down" mix?
http://voodoofunk.blogspot.com/2008/08/everybody-get-down.html

Wendelin said...

Hi Frank, yes i know the song already, thank you. Also from diverse compilations 'Ikon Allah' (Bala Miller), 'Ku mi da Hankan' (The Elcados) and stuff of Onipa Nua and Kwabenya Nyama, which is rather palmwine than funky.

Wendelin said...

Oh, and i forgot to mention from John's Blog Likembe Camerounian Band Ali Baba, which great Hausa Disco: http://likembe.blogspot.com/search/label/Ali%20Baba

big up to ya!

Frank said...

Thanx for the thumbs up, Rich! You're actually the first to positively comment on this one. I might just dig deep into my crates one day and put together a Nigerian Lovers Rock mix.

I like that idea...

hippo said...

Hi Frank,

I love the mixes on your blogspot and the stories about your crate digging adventures in West Africa.

Last year I compiled the album 'Ghana Funk' for Hippo Records in Holland.
In august we will do some concerts in Holland with Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and we made a promo clip which still needs some editing. The editor has used the African Heat picture from your website at 2.50 minutes into the clip, I hope that's OK for you:

All the best

Frank said...

Hi Martin,

that's a great clip!
Thanx for using my image and for letting me know about this.

Great compilation by the way!

Got turned onto your blog by Wax Poetics. Thanks so much for the chance to hear this great music.

PAt said...

Hi, thank you so much for all the work you put into all of this!

This mix does not seem to work any longer(?)
It is my favorite, but my ipod got stolen so I no longer have it, and now I cant get it back... :(

Frank said...

Hi PAt, the mp3 is hosted on my LibSyn account and should be downloadable without any problem. Give it another try, maybe it was your internet connection...

WoodWorks said...

Hey Frank,
Absolutely brilliant mix.

Are you making this (or your mixes in general) available for purchase or download?
It's just a shame not to be able to listen to it offline.

Thanks much!

Frank said...

Hey WoodWorks, you can easily download all mixes (well, except of "Sunny Grooves" which is hosted on Soundcloud) by clicking on the link/image for the mp3 while holding down your mac's control key and then selecting "save link as". If you are on a PC I think you have to right-click on the link and chose "save target as". Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Frank
