Tanks for all you introducions and the marvellous mixes you prepair. I`ve got a problem with the last one though. Winrar asked for a password this time. I´m I too thick to find it??? Please help.
Thank you, C.
Hi Frank! Sorry to bother you again. I solved the problem with the winrar. Sorry to bother you. I indeed have been to thick to use the programm. But thank you so much for the music
;) C.
Brilliant!! Absolutely stunning music. Thank you so much for the cue list! It would have been much more difficult to separate the tracks without that.
One question: While most of this sounds like the very early 1970's, do you happen to have any of the release year breakdowns for the tracts?
Are these all 45's, or culled from LPs?
Thank you again, so much!!
All releases are from ca. '72-'78.
The following tracks are from 45s:
Nkamsah & Yaanom - felicia
Santrofi Ansa - shakabula
Joe Mensah - funky talk in hausa
3rd Generation Band - obi ye saa wui
Action 13 - more bread to the people
the Funkees - baby i need you
The rest are LP tracks.
I just added scans of all the records used to this post so just have a look for yourself.
Excellent. I've been wanting to hear another 3rd Generation band track since the first Ghana Sounds comp. man, I can't thank you enough for continuing to post these amazing mixes--it's a privilege just to get this music in my ears.
Great great great!
Another Funkees single I didn't know. And it's a total killer!!
Do you have a lot of gigs in New York? I'm trying to go there as soon as possible. I'll save some money and fly in from Europe, mark my words :-)
The best,
Frank
PS And this "call me Frank" track is absolutely fantastic! I wish I could lay my hands on a copy of this Psychedelic Man LP once........
I'm not doing any regular gigs in NY so far... I'm in the middle of talking to different clubs about a weekly event that will start in the fall but these things take time, it's like getting married, you want to make the right decision and spend many happy years together.
Moving all of my records to NYC from two different continents also took some time. My storage unit from Berlin finally got here yesterday and the 40 foot container, shipped directly from Africa is scheduled to arrive in New York by next week. There's also a spare copy of the Psychedelic Man LP in there. Feel free to make me a trade offer...
Cheers!

The "Rock Town Express" cover is extra DOPE!

Your mixes are wonderful. Thanks for bringing this music to my world. I live in NYC... how can I find out about your parties?
I'll post here about any upcoming events. You can also write me an email and I'll put you on my mailing list.
Stellar mix as is usual Frank. I second the enthusiasm over the 3rd Gen Band. But what really peaks my interest is The Funkee's 'Baby I Need You'. Great, great track which I've never heard of or seen before. What's the flip side and is that any good?
The flip side is a track called "Akpankoro" which is just as good. A bit more upbeat and with a great percussion break down.
hey Frank - awesome works and welcome to NYC.
Look me up! I'm all ensconced in family matters but working away on my own dub recordings whenever time permits - but also trying to grow a little in knowledge of the Afro scene in the 60s 70s.
I'm still grooving to the JA sounds of those times but you are doing great work to open up the African stuff.
Nuff respect.
Another sweet mix Frank! Thanks again and see you in Chicago.
Marc B.
i just discovered your blog, and it's fantastic, thank you so much for the music.

dont you have any stuff from DR G KYASSI AND HIS NOBLE KINGS ? (ghana.)
gracias mil !!
Hi Champeta Man!
I actually have plans of travelling to Colombia early next year... and I have several records by Dr. K Gyasi. I met his son who runs a record store in Kumasi in central Ghana. Dr. K. Gyasi recorded mainly highlife but one LP has a strong Afrobeat track that I will post sometime next week or so on my myspace site.
Cheers!

Hope you remember me Frank, wrote you once about Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou! I have just downloaded this mix and is really, really, really great! Thanks!
Very special blog you have, inspires me. Interested to know, do your best finds come from private collections and hook-ups as opposed to 'record shop' digs? Would be cool to hear of any record store spots still out there that stock old vinyl...
Also, has it generally been a lot easier to find high life or traditional african music over the more funkier, heavier type gear or are those records just as tricky to find?
best, Rich
Hey Rich,
I found most stuff from private collections and from former record store owners. I've only found a handful record stores that still exist and had some records left.
Wow this mix is great. I'm just living for this music. Love discovering new stuff. Thanks for digging deep.
What a great music.
thanks for sharing with us
Great show last night! Thanks and look forward to the next! Bill NYC
i listen to it the first time and really love it - thanks and good luck for future actions..
Hi Frank -- nice to see you at Yuko's benefit party; I'm glad I kept the flier for your event at Union Pool on the 11th, because now I'm listening to your mix! It's great!
See you soon,
Paula
Man, this is awesome. wonderful. made my day. beautiful. we are of the same cloth. keep on keepin' on, brother.
hello--dumb quesion probably, but on a PC is there a way to open these files in or import them to itunes? Thanks a lot
To download the mp3s onto a PC, use rightclick-"save target". On a Mac, hold down option key while clicking onto the link. Once downloaded, you can import the mp3 into itunes or any other audio player.
Just downloaded the last of it. Thanks so much for sharing! This really brightens my days.
Hi Frank!
Well, I read all entries - one of the most fascinating blogs out there - thank you! I am cherishing the mixes you have uploaded. Thanks for the reply btw - I will have to come to New York and checkout one of your dj sessions.
Thank you for the education!

Frank, the link to the "Everybody Get Down" mp3 seems to be broken. I get a 404 error from Soulstrut. Sad. :(
You are doing the world a great service by saving these records from mold and the ravages of time. Rock on.
Also, keep coming to NYC. We love you here!
The link is fixed!
Hi Frank,
I'd be so glad to hear the whole mix but there's only an excerpt 1'23sec long. Is this normal ?
Thanks for the music and greetings from Paris.
Loïc
Should work fine now...
