Brilliant!! Absolutely stunning music. Thank you so much for the cue list! It would have been much more difficult to separate the tracks without that.
One question: While most of this sounds like the very early 1970's, do you happen to have any of the release year breakdowns for the tracts?
Are these all 45's, or culled from LPs?

PS And this "call me Frank" track is absolutely fantastic! I wish I could lay my hands on a copy of this Psychedelic Man LP once........
I'm not doing any regular gigs in NY so far... I'm in the middle of talking to different clubs about a weekly event that will start in the fall but these things take time, it's like getting married, you want to make the right decision and spend many happy years together.
Moving all of my records to NYC from two different continents also took some time. My storage unit from Berlin finally got here yesterday and the 40 foot container, shipped directly from Africa is scheduled to arrive in New York by next week. There's also a spare copy of the Psychedelic Man LP in there. Feel free to make me a trade offer...

Stellar mix as is usual Frank. I second the enthusiasm over the 3rd Gen Band. But what really peaks my interest is The Funkee's 'Baby I Need You'. Great, great track which I've never heard of or seen before. What's the flip side and is that any good?
The flip side is a track called "Akpankoro" which is just as good. A bit more upbeat and with a great percussion break down.

Look me up! I'm all ensconced in family matters but working away on my own dub recordings whenever time permits - but also trying to grow a little in knowledge of the Afro scene in the 60s 70s.
I'm still grooving to the JA sounds of those times but you are doing great work to open up the African stuff.

I actually have plans of travelling to Colombia early next year... and I have several records by Dr. K Gyasi. I met his son who runs a record store in Kumasi in central Ghana. Dr. K. Gyasi recorded mainly highlife but one LP has a strong Afrobeat track that I will post sometime next week or so on my myspace site.

Very special blog you have, inspires me. Interested to know, do your best finds come from private collections and hook-ups as opposed to 'record shop' digs? Would be cool to hear of any record store spots still out there that stock old vinyl...
Also, has it generally been a lot easier to find high life or traditional african music over the more funkier, heavier type gear or are those records just as tricky to find?

I found most stuff from private collections and from former record store owners. I've only found a handful record stores that still exist and had some records left.

hello--dumb quesion probably, but on a PC is there a way to open these files in or import them to itunes? Thanks a lot
To download the mp3s onto a PC, use rightclick-"save target". On a Mac, hold down option key while clicking onto the link. Once downloaded, you can import the mp3 into itunes or any other audio player.
